چکیده

A b-coloring of a graph is a coloring such that every color class admits a vertex adjacent to at least one vertex receiving each of the colors not assigned to it. The b-chromatic number of a graph G, denoted by χb(G), is the maximum number t such that G admits a bcoloring with t colors. A graph G is b-continuous if it admits a b-coloring with t colors, for every t = χ(G), . . . , χb(G). We define a graph G to be b-monotonic if χb(H1) ≥ χb(H2) for every induced subgraph H1 of G, and every induced subgraph H2 of H1. In this work, we prove that P4-sparse graphs (and, in particular, cographs) are b-continuous and b-monotonic. Besides, we describe a dynamic programming algorithm to compute the b-chromatic number in polynomial time within these graph classes.

Weighted Coloring on P4-sparse Graphs

Given an undirected graph G = (V, E) and a weight function w : V → R, a vertex coloring of G is a partition of V into independent sets, or color classes. The weight of a vertex coloring of G is defined as the sum of the weights of its color classes, where the weight of a color class is the weight of a heaviest vertex belonging to it. In the W C problem, we want to determine the mi...

Restricted coloring problems

In this paper, we obtain polynomial time algorithms to determine the acyclic chromatic number, the star chromatic number and the harmonious chromatic number of P4-tidy graphs and (q, q − 4)-graphs, for every fixed q. These classes include cographs, P4-sparse and P4-lite graphs. We also obtain a polynomial time algorithm to determine the Grundy number of (q, q − 4)-graphs. All these coloring pro...

Maximization coloring problems on graphs with few P4

Given a graph G= (V,E), a greedy coloring of G is a proper coloring such that, for each two colors i< j, every vertex of V (G) colored j has a neighbor with color i. The greatest k such that G has a greedy coloring with k colors is the Grundy number of G. A b-coloring of G is a proper coloring such that every color class contains a vertex which is adjacent to at least one vertex in every other ...

Fixed parameter algorithms for restricted coloring problems

In this paper, we obtain polynomial time algorithms to determine the acyclic chromatic number, the star chromatic number, the Thue chromatic number, the harmonious chromatic number and the clique chromatic number of P4-tidy graphs and (q, q−4)-graphs, for every fixed q. These classes include cographs, P4-sparse and P4-lite graphs. All these coloring problems are known to be NP-hard for general ...

On Some Cograph Extensions and Their Algorithms

This paper reviews some classes of graphs related to cographs. The characterization of cographs by which there is no induced path on three edges (P4) is relaxed in various ways. Considered are classes of graphs that are uniquely representable by trees. Three such classes studied here are: P4-reducible, P4-sparse and P4-extendible graphs. In addition, we show that the class of P4-lite graphs has...
